Copyright and DMCA
Woolly indexes publicly available web pages and links to them. We respect robots.txt and we honor removal requests. This page explains how we handle copyright, and how a site owner or rights holder can have material excluded or taken down.
1. How Woolly uses web content
Woolly crawls the open web and reads the public Common Crawl archive, indexes what it finds, and shows each result as a title, a short snippet, and a link to the source page. We point people to content on its original site. We do not host or republish the full pages. We respect robots.txt and standard exclusion signals, and if a site blocks crawling, we do not crawl it.
2. Remove or exclude your site
If you own or control a site and do not want it indexed by Woolly engines, you have two easy options:
- Block our crawler in robots.txt. It identifies itself as WoollyBot, and we honor the block.
- Or email abuse@woolly.run with the site or the URLs you want excluded. We will remove them from our index and stop crawling them.
You do not need to file a formal legal notice just to have your own site excluded. A request is enough.
3. DMCA notice and takedown
If you believe content shown through Woolly infringes a copyright you own or represent, send a written notice to our designated agent that includes:
- Your physical or electronic signature.
- The copyrighted work you say is infringed.
- The specific material and the URL or result where it appears on Woolly, with enough detail for us to find it.
- Your name, address, phone number, and email.
- A statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorized by the owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and that you are the owner or are authorized to act for the owner.
Send it to our designated agent:
Great Land of Gems
[PLACEHOLDER: DMCA agent mailing address]
Email: abuse@woolly.run
When we receive a valid notice, we will remove or disable access to the identified material in our index within a reasonable time. Because we link to the open web, the material usually still exists on its source site, so contact that site to have it removed there.
4. Counter-notice
If your material was removed and you believe that was a mistake or a misidentification, you can send a counter-notice to the same agent that includes:
- Your physical or electronic signature.
- The material that was removed and where it appeared before removal.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you believe in good faith it was removed by mistake or misidentification.
- Your name, address, and phone number, a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal court for your district, or, if you are outside the United States, [PLACEHOLDER: governing-law jurisdiction], and that you will accept service from the person who filed the notice.
We may restore the material in 10 to 14 business days, unless the person who filed the original notice tells us they have filed a court action to keep it down.
5. Repeat infringers
In appropriate cases, we will disable or terminate the accounts and engines of users who repeatedly infringe, or who repeatedly build engines that surface infringing material.
6. Misuse of notices
Filing a false notice or counter-notice can carry legal liability. Send requests in good faith.
